Top 5 Scooter Launches Of 2016

Automatic scooters is the fastest growing segment of the Indian two-wheeler market and that's the reason most of the manufacturers are concentrating on this category. While some of the automakers are trying to make the conventional products more convenient with advanced features, others are targeting an increased market share with some unique new products. The year 2016 also witnessed a mixed bag of advanced and unique products and here we are with the top 5 of them.

TVS Jupiter MillionR:

Celebrating the one million customers milestone, TVS Motors launched a special Jupiter MillionR edition in June this year. Along with a unique Royal Wine colour scheme, the scooter received a front disc brake, endowing it with better braking performance. Moreover, it gets beige inner panels and a dual-coloured seat complimenting the unique paint job. The TVS Jupiter MillionR edition has been priced at Rs 53,034 -- that means around Rs 4,000 more over the standard variant and around Rs 2,000 extra over the ZX trim.

Yamaha Ray-ZR:

Instead of bringing in new technology or advanced features, Yamaha believes in attracting the customers with the styling of its products. After the success of its classy scooter, the Fascino, the company this year introduced a very sporty model, the Ray-ZR. Again, the product is based on the same 110cc platform that is shared by all the Yamaha scooters. The dynamic design of the Yamaha Ray-ZR is targeted towards young customers and it comes with a price tag of Rs 52,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) while its disc brake variant costs Rs 2,500 extra.

Suzuki Access 125:

Suzuki launched the all-new Access 125 is March this year with a completely new styling. The updates include a classy looking chrome headlight casing and redesigned instrument console. The scooter shares the base platform with the older model, however, there are lots of changes like larger front wheel and better suspension set-up. The power and torque figures of the 125cc engine remains unchanged but the new SEP technology helps in returning better fuel economy -- up to 64kmpl. The scooter comes in standard and disc brake variants, starting at Rs 53,887 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Aprilia SR 150:

With the characteristics of a sport bike and the convenience of an automatic scooter, Aprilia launched its first affordable product in India, the SR150. Featuring a sleek, aerodynamic and lightweight design, the scooter gets an edgy bodywork along with sporty dual headlamps. A 3-valve, 154.4cc engine brings out the true sporty spirit of the machine, making is capable of crossing the 100kmph mark. Besides the features of a conventional scooter, its gets some extra highlights, such as 14" alloy wheels, wide 120/70 section performance tyres and a 220mm disc up front. Moreover, the company has launched the SR150 at a very tempting introductory price of Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it an affordable Italian machine you can buy in India.

Honda Navi:

Launched at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, the Honda Navi is the most interesting two-wheeler introduced this year. A crossover between a scooter and a motorcycle, it is a one of its kind machine that is never seen before in the country and targeted towards young buyers looking for a fun to ride option. Based on the tested Honda Activa's platform, Navi looks inspired by the company's international product, the Grom, which is not available in India. Priced at Rs 39,648 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Honda Navi is powered by the same trusted 110cc engine that powers the popular Activa 3G. The Navi, however, gets the advantage of lesser weight.
